“After a quick dash to San Diego, I can’t say I’d want to travel a much longer distance in the Insight,” logs art director Mike Royer. ” The engine works so hard that you feel tense and worn out after reaching your destination. I also don’t like the poor visibility through the back hatch nor the loud interior noise.”

Associate Web editor Kirill Ougarov, however, does have some positive things to say about Honda’s hybrid. “Thanks to its small size, it’s easy to park. There’s plenty of space for groceries, though you wouldn’t want to put a full Costco load in there because the car will be overwhelmed by the weight. I also like the responsive feel and behavior of the steering; in paddle-shift mode, ratio changes are nearly instantaneous.”

Wait wait…spark plugs at 20k? huh
A Civic looks gigantic compared to this.  With everything i’ve read it sounds like this car was rushed to the market to compete with the Prius.

Replace the spark plugs already?  The CVT needed service so soon as well, eh?

I guess a beautiful paint color can only compensate for so many flaws.  I wish Honda would use that blue on other cars in their lineup.
Last June when we were looking for a new car to replace our 99 Civic we had two major criteria; 1. It had to be highly efficient. 2. It had to be affordable (low $20ks).

These criteria left us with two choices – The Insight or the Prius. We test drove both. Aside from the larger size there wasn’t anything we liked better about the Prius. We preferred the more car like feel and proper instrument placement of the Insight. Being much more comfortable with the Honda salesman and dealership also helped make up our mind.

The Insight does have some flaws, it is small, it’s kind of “tinny” and the engine can seem burdened. Those are the biggest gripes that I have and they all are relatively minor and easy to live with. The car greatly succeeds at it’s mission of efficiency. After 16k miles, including a brutally cold winter, we have a lifetime average of 46.1 mpg. We are pleased with that and like our car.

Where is Jackasssssusa to stand in defense. This car is ugly, small, junky, and has to have the plugs replaces already. Give me a break. Unless you are an enviro wacko this is a joke. Grow a set. Beard, almost forgot, if you endeared car like qualities and not the starship enterprise then why didn’t you check the fusion? Sorry, silly question, you are enlightened beyond anything domestic. Don’t blame it on the salesman, your partner told you what you were getting. Man up, admit it.
^^Imnahole –

Apparently you

1. didn’t read my criteria that the car needed to be in the low $20ks. The Fusion hybrid starts around $27k.

2. didn’t see myin the Fusion hybrid long term test article (the one that you also posted a nearly nonsensical attempt to insult someone) in which I praised the Fusion hybrid.

If you’re going to be a jack ass at least put a little thought into it.

Don’t forget his name, beard.  I haven’t seen anything in beard’s posts to suggest he’s an environut, just seems like a regular guy looking to save on gas and not be humiliated by owning something called a prius.
Honda could do lot better than this.
This is probably one of the biggest failures from Honda.

I hope the nextgen civic hybrid due for next year will be really great and won’t be a failure like insight.
